How I Can Help

Individual Therapy

Parent Coaching

Eating Disorder Family Therapy

  • A safe, compassionate space to explore and heal from anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, OCD, and more. Together, we’ll work to reconnect you with your body, your story, and your internal wisdom.

  • Practical, empathetic support for parents navigating a child’s eating disorder, emotional struggles, or mental health challenges. You’ll gain tools and insight to show up with confidence, clarity, and compassion.

  • For families affected by disordered eating, we’ll work to restore communication, build understanding, and create a home environment rooted in safety, attunement, and healing.

  • Through somatic and body-based therapies such as Brainspotting, we gently access the deeper emotional layers stored in the body, opening the door to healing, increased capacity, and release.

This is more than symptom relief—it’s an invitation to heal, grow, and move toward the life you want, with support that honors your pace and your story.

  • Together we’ll explore patterns, wounds, and protective strategies with curiosity—not shame—so you can deepen connection with yourself and those around you.

About Megan McKinney, LCSW

Founder of Live Kind Counseling

Hi, I’m Megan, a therapist and founder of LiveKind Counseling. I specialize in supporting teens, young adults, and adults navigating eating disorders, anxiety, trauma, OCD, and depression. My approach is trauma-informed and rooted in compassion, curiosity, and connection. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from Boston College and have experience working across various levels of care, including higher-acuity treatment settings for eating disorders.

In my past roles, I’ve worked closely with multidisciplinary teams, including medical providers, dietitians, and psychiatrists, to ensure holistic, collaborative care. These experiences continue to inform my work in private practice, where I offer individual therapy, parent coaching, and family support with a deep respect for the complexity of each client’s journey.

I operate from the belief that you are the expert of your own life. My role is to walk alongside you, helping you explore what’s beneath the surface with safety and trust. I honor the importance of the therapeutic relationship and use attunement-driven/brain-based modalities like Brainspotting to support deeper healing and nervous system regulation. Live Kind Counseling was named in honor of my grandmother, who embodied kindness in every corner of her life. It’s a value that continues to guide the space I hold for my clients today.

Organizations & Affliations

Who I Work With

Compassionate, trauma-informed therapy for teens (13+), young adults, and adults.

I specialize in working with girls, women, and gender-expansive individuals navigating eating disorders, anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, and trauma. Many of my clients are highly self-aware and emotionally sensitive, yet feel overwhelmed by the weight of expectations, inner criticism, or the pressure to keep functioning while struggling beneath the surface.

If you're a young adult or adult, you may be in a season of transition, burnout, or disconnection. You might be questioning your worth, your direction, or your relationship with your body and mind. Therapy can be a space to slow down, make sense of what’s happening internally, and begin to move forward with clarity and self-compassion. My approach meets you where you are, honoring your lived experience while gently guiding you toward deeper healing.

And if you're a parent seeking support for your teen, I understand how difficult it is to watch your child struggle. I create a safe, respectful space where teens can speak openly and feel heard—without pressure or judgment. While I don’t share the details of what’s discussed in session, I do support parents in understanding the process, navigating their own emotions, and showing up for their child with confidence and compassion.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Guided by the notion “where you look affects how you feel” Brainspotting is a trauma-focused therapy that uses eye position to access and process unresolved emotional pain stored in the brain. It helps people heal from trauma, anxiety, depression, and performance blocks. Works well for those who have a hard time articulating trauma or challenging experiences.

    • Polyvagal-Informed Therapy helps clients understand and regulate their nervous system by applying the principles of the Polyvagal Theory. It focuses on how the body reacts to stress and uses this understanding to promote healing and emotional safety.

    • Unlike talk therapy alone, polyvagal-informed therapy works bottom-up—starting with the body and nervous system, not just thoughts. It emphasizes safety, connection, and regulation

  • I require at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged the full session fee.

  • I am an out-of-network provider, which means I do not bill insurance directly. However, I’m happy to provide you with a comprehensive superbill—a detailed receipt for our sessions—that you can submit to your insurance company. Many clients with out-of-network benefits are eligible for partial reimbursement of counseling fees. If this applies to you, you would pay my full session rate upfront and then submit the superbill for potential reimbursement.

  • A superbill is a detailed receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. I’m happy to provide one upon request.

  • I see clients virtually and in person.

  • To help address the systemic factors influencing mental health conditions, I set aside a limited number of sliding scale slots for clients facing financial constraints.
